Finish porch, stair, and gate posts with a classic crowning detail using this wood post finial. An egg-shaped body is carved with a crisscrossing diamond lattice that resolves into a star pattern at the top, set on a slender neck and a flat round base. The pineapple-inspired lattice is a traditional symbol of welcome on entry stairs, porches, fences, and garden pillars.
Standing 9″ tall and 5″ in diameter, this wood millwork piece is turned and carved from Accoya, an acetylated wood engineered for exterior use. Acetylation makes the wood highly resistant to rot and far more dimensionally stable than untreated softwood, so the finial holds its shape and its paint film through rain, sun, and freeze-thaw cycles. The 0.5″ base disc seats flat on a post cap, and the finial takes primer and exterior paint well, as on the white porch posts shown.
This wood post finial was reproduced from a client’s photo of a weathered original that had cracked and split after years outdoors. Our team rebuilt the profile and lattice pattern as a 3D model, carved it on our CNC machines, and hand-finished the grooves so the replacement matches the original design in a far more durable material.
