Why Not Bring Back the Kitchen Table? Add Some Flair While You’re At It

July 21, 2015

Kitchen islands have become more and more popular in recent times, but there is still room in the kitchen for the classic kitchen table. Available in a remarkable range of styles, kitchen tables can be customized to fit their surroundings no matter the circumstances of their users.

Here are some reasons to bring back the kitchen table:

  • Kitchen islands are much more utilitarian than kitchen tables, so much so that creating certain atmospheres using kitchen islands borders on the impossible. For example, kitchen islands are ill-suited to formal dining because most examples have a significant portion of their space reserved for utilitarian purposes such as food preparation. In contrast, a kitchen table with custom legs can lend a much-needed touch of elegance to an otherwise simple and serious room.
  • On a related note, the kitchen table has an easier time serving as the metaphorical heart of the home than the kitchen island because it is easier for people sitting at a kitchen table to socialize face-to-face.
  • Kitchen tables are more versatile than kitchen islands because it is possible to move the table and chairs around while islands are mostly stationary.
