Ideas for Using Corbels In Your Home
July 21, 2015
Corbels protrude from walls for the purpose of supporting the elements that rest upon them. Since the more ornate examples are often associated with classical architecture, a corbel’s presence in the home can lend elegance to their surroundings.
Here are some examples of how corbels can be used in the home:
- Corbels can be used to emphasize certain parts of the room. For example, using corbels to support a shelf placed right above the cooking range calls attention to that place. So long as the corbels match the rest of the kitchen, it should enhance the room’s appearance while providing convenience in the form of an extra storage space.
- For much the same reasons, corbels can also add detail to fixtures such as kitchen cabinets.
- Complementing beams with corbels serves to create transition points in the home. Even if the corbels serve no practical function, matching their dimensions to those of the beams result in a smoother and more coherent appearance.
- Some corbels are ornate enough to serve as decorations on their own, though homeowners can also use them to hold small items.
