Design Tips: Where You Should and Shouldn’t Use Mouldings in Your Home
July 24, 2015
Mouldings can be used to complete their surroundings. As a result, mouldings are best used in places that let them stand out to the senses. However, it is important to note that moulding customization makes them suitable for use in more locations than
most people expect. Consider these tips when using mouldings for your home:
- Mouldings should suit their surroundings. For example, both modern mouldings and traditional mouldings that consist of clean, angular lines can clash with more nature-inspired settings. In those cases, it might be better to use more organic mouldings that make extensive use of curves and curlicues.
- Even less prominent places can benefit from the presence of mouldings. However, it is important to balance their benefits with their costs. Remember that even something like simple paint-grade moulding painted in a contrasting color can create a lot of visual interest.
- Mouldings take up space, meaning that smaller settings can have a hard time accommodating them without feeling cramped and closed-in. That said, there are mouldings out there that are subtle enough to enhance their surroundings without exuding minimal presence, meaning that this is not an insurmountable challenge.
