How to Find the Right Details for Your Kitchen Island

July 22, 2015

Adding legs to your kitchen island can be a great way to lift the island and cabinets off the floor and make your kitchen space feel more open. Here are some different options for legs in your kitchen island design:

  • Semi-recessed square legs. A panel connects the two legs at each end and is slightly recessed, which gives the legs a more dimensional look. Molding at the top, a base trim, and a stone countertop all work together to give the island more of a furniture feel.
  • Large square column-style legs. These large legs are connected by an open cabinet that can be used to store excess plates or decorative items.
  • Combination square and shaped legs. These legs are pushed up against the island panel and there is space between them. These legs are not semi-recessed.
  • Semi-recessed, tapered metal leg. This provides a more modern look that still mixes nicely with any traditional woodwork. The simplicity of the metal leg and the fact that it connects right to the countertop adds to the contemporary feel.
