Choosing the right wood color for a room can mean the difference between a nice looking décor and a truly spectacular one. Here are some ideas for using both dark and light woods to their best effect:

  • Dark Woods: These hues are excellent for contrasting with white or light colors. An interesting idea is to sandwich the walls between a dark wood floor and dark-beamed ceiling.
  • Light Woods: Lighter hues tend to stay in the background and are quite useful for complementing contemporary or modern decors. In addition, they are an ideal choice for rooms that need lots of light as they are excellent reflectors.
  • A Happy Medium: For a happy balance in hallways, bathrooms and other high-traffic areas, consider the medium tones. They don’t show dirt as much as the light ones and still allow some natural illumination to flow into these interior spaces.
